More Than 650 Donors Made A Difference In Life During A Weekend Of Lifesaving Events At The NBC 7/39 And Padres Blood Drives!

Posted: January 28, 2008

The San Diego Blood Bank is celebrating a successful weekend of lifesaving events, with longtime community partners NBC 7/39 and the San Diego Padres, which helped collect 653 pints of blood for local patients.

Donors began making a difference on Friday, January 25, when NBC 7/39 kicked off the weekend with their annual Winter Blood Drive outside their studios on Horton Square.

The NBC drive yielded 128 pints during an unusually blustery winter day and the Padres followed their lead by collecting 525 additional pints at their two-day drive at Petco Park.  This was the first year the Padres combined their blood drive with their annual FriarFest fan appreciation event and the new venue proved successful.

"We are very thankful to both NBC 7/39 and the San Diego Padres for helping us host two amazing blood drives," said Lynn Stedd of the San Diego Blood Bank. "Partnering with these two community leaders helps us recruit new donors who will, hopefully, continue to make a difference in life by donating blood for years to come."

Donors at both drives were awarded a commemorative Adrian Gonzalez replica jersey and the chance to meet some of their favorite Padres players.
