22nd Annual Cartoonists Day Set to "Draw" Donors to the San Diego Blood Bank's Six Centers in San Diego County on Saturday, April 18

For the 22nd year, local cartoonists will “draw” blood donors on Saturday, April 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., to all six San Diego Blood Bank donor centers in San Diego County.  The cartoonists, all members of the Southern California Cartoonists Society (SCCS), will be on hand to draw caricatures of donors.

For the first time donors living in the Sabre Spring area will have the opportunity to take part in Cartoonists Day at the newly opened Sabre Springs Donor Center, 12640 Sabre Springs Parkway, 92128, in the Sabre Springs Marketplace Center.  Caricaturist John Wismont and artists John Roach, Greg Mullendore and George Brewster will entertain donors at this new center.

Donors going to the main San Diego Blood Bank location, 440 Upas Street, San Diego, will meet cartoonist Batton Lash, creator of WOLF AND BYRD, COUNSELORS OF THE MACABRE, Emmy-award winner and SCCS President Karyl Miller, SPIFFICATED creator Wardell Brown and artists Joe Annino, Bob Constantine, Arlington Cruz and Jorge Pacheco.

Nationally syndicated cartoonist Greg Evans, LUANN creator, SCCS Past Presidents Janet Williams and Jim Whiting, will appear at the North County Donor Center, 1340 W. Valley Parkway, Escondido.

Appearing at the North Coastal Donor Center, 161 Thunder Drive, Vista, are former ABC-TV courtroom illustrator Bill Lignante and artists Leilani Bost, Joanne Stephens and Stan Brown.   

Cartoonists appearing at the East County Donor Center, 680 Fletcher Parkway, El Cajon, will include artists Fred Falk and Mike Peters.

At the South Bay Donor Center, 1717 Sweetwater Road, National City, artists Frank Mitchell and Frank Mutascio will draw donors.

Blood donors are also encouraged to join the blood bank’s new Donor Difference loyalty program, where members are entitled to new benefits, including the ability to track their total cholesterol, blood pressure and pulse.
