XX 1090 AM, San Diego 1700 AM and 105.7 The Walrus are joining the San Diego Blood Bank in remembering America’s September 11th Heroes at the 8th Annual Patriots Day Blood and Bone Marrow Drive at the Hall of Champions in Balboa Park on Friday, September 11, from 9 am to  3 pm.

The first 100 blood donors will be awarded a choice of one of the following: a ticket to Body Worlds and the Brain exhibit at the Natural History Museum; a pair of Live Nation Concert Tickets (while supplies last) to lawn tickets for the Brad Paisley concert at Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre Friday, October 2; tickets to Better Than Ezra at House of Blues Wednesday, September 23; or Robert Earl Keen at House of Blues, Thursday, October 1.  Donors must be 21 or older to attend the Robert Earl Keen and Better Than Ezra shows.  Donors will also be treated to Sombrero’s mini burritos.

This year’s drive is made possible by presenting sponsor Disabled American Veterans, Motorola,  Wells Fargo, Grossmont Healthcare, Moneytree, Union Bank, Cox Kids Foundation and San Diego National Bank.

The blood and bone marrow drive on September 11th is a commemoration of the dedicated San Diegans who gave blood in September 2001, as well as the many heroes who lost their lives that day.  Thanks to the U.S. Navy, the San Diego Blood Bank was the first to fly 380 pints of blood requested by the New York Blood Center to New York at 1p.m., on September 11th, 2001.

Bone marrow testing for the National Marrow Donor Program’s Be The Match registry is also free at this drive.  To join the Be The Match Marrow Registry, potential donors must be 18-60, meet the health guidelines and be willing to donate to any patient in need.

Anyone who is at least 17 years old, in generally good health, weighs at least 110 pounds and provides photo I.D. may qualify to donate blood.   To schedule a blood donation appointment, call 1-800-4MY-SDBB or visit www.sandiegobloodbank.org.
