 Blood Donations Help Patients Like... Chance & Cadence Mitchell Two-year-old Cadence Mitchell of Temecula and her big brother Chance, 5-years-old, have a lot more in common than just family ties. This brother and sister have undergone a combined 16 surgeries requiring dozens of transfusions as a result of congenital heart defects discovered at birth.
Because both Cadence and Chance have a rare blood type, their parents have become painfully aware of the importance of regular blood donations in order to ensure that blood is available when their children need it. Their mom, Melissa, has transformed this awareness into action, spreading the word within her tri-athlete group and organizing local blood drives to benefit other patients like her children.
