Financial contributions to the San Diego Blood Bank have a great impact on our community. Whether the donations are helping to fund much needed testing equipment to ensure the safety of the blood supply, or making certain that new and refurbished bloodmobiles are available to collect and deliver that precious commodity, financial donations make our work possible.

The combination of an aging population, significant population growth, medical advances and increasing deferment of donors, has created enormous strains on our national blood supply. Even with these challenges, the San Diego Blood Bank has a proven track record and will continue to provide a safe, adequate blood supply for San Diego county patients by incorporating the newest technology, monitoring the community's needs and expanding our programs and facilities when necessary.

The San Diego Blood Bank is a highly efficient organization that carefully reinvests every charitable contribution we receive back into the lives of patients we help save. Approximately 93.5% of all charitable funds raised go to support our lifesaving programs. The cost of fundraising is only 1.5% of the blood bank's overall expenses and only 5% of the funds go to cover the cost of administration.

More than 125,000 San Diegans every year rely on the San Diego Blood Bank for the donated blood they need. These patients are struggling with a wide range of life threatening medical conditions including cancer and other blood disorders, severe burns, organ transplants, trauma, childbirth complications, emergency surgery and more. There is no substitute for blood; no matter how advanced the hospital or skilled the physician, they may not save a life if the donated blood they need is not available.
