Each year several San Diego organizations partner with the San Diego Blood Bank to Make A Difference in Life through successful blood drives.

Signature blood drives sponsored by the high profile organizations qualify for the Difference Maker Award by recruiting more than 500 donors in up to 4 days.

Members of the communications media qualified for the Difference Maker Award by recruiting at least 100+ donors to their drives.

San Diego Chargers have hosted their blood drive for the past 30 years, as well as assisting the San Diego Blood Bank in obtaining underwriting for the Chargers Blood Drive. The team also lends their name to the blood bank's Charger Mania blood drive which takes place the week before and a few weeks after the Chargers Blood Drive. In addition, in 2008, the Chargers invited the San Diego Blood Bank to hold a blood drive at their Fanfest. The outcome for last year's blood donations motivated by the Chargers was 10,418. The overall total number of blood donations at Chargers Blood Drives now tops 60,000 pints.

Pat & Oscar's Blood Drives in 2008 totaled 2,071 pints and Pat & Oscar's also served samplers at numerous special event blood drives last year.

The San Diego Comic Con International resulted in 1,070 pints donated in 2008. Over the past 32 years, the Comic Con has contributed 7,538 pints to area patients. Last year the Comic Con also sponsored a fund-raising drawing for a Captain America-themed Honda Element for the San Diego Blood Bank.

The San Diego Padres have held annual blood drive for the past 12 years resulting in a total of 3,730 blood donations. In 2008 the Padres Blood Drive totaled 524 pints.

KFMB Stations: News 8, 100.7 Jack FM & 760 KFMB AM hold two annual blood drives in 2008 which totaled 295 pints.

NBC 7/39 has partnered with the San Diego Blood Bank for 14 years. Each year the station holds two blood drives. In 2008 NBC 7/39 Blood Drives resulted in 232 blood donations. In addition, NBC 7/39 features a different patient profile in their 5 p.m. news each Friday and have generously supported numerous fund-raising events for the San Diego Blood Bank.

Rock 105.3 holds blood drives on every Friday, the 13th. In 2008, Rock 105.3 also held a December Holiday Blood Drive for a grand total of 151 pints.
