![]() ![]() How does the Volunteer Difference Program work? Each volunteer has the opportunity to volunteer at a mobile drive, as an ambassador speaker and as a canteen host. Each time a volunteer donates his/her time they will be awarded points for every hour volunteered. As you reach a certain amount of time donated you step up in levels and receive benefits accordingly. How do I become a San Diego Blood Bank volunteer? It’s easy! Either go online and fill out an application and email it to npena@sandiegobloodbank.org or phone Noemi Pena at 619-400-8202. All volunteers must attend an orientation before becoming a San Diego Blood Bank volunteer. Do my past volunteer hours apply?Yes, the volunteer program will launch August 1, 2007. Your hours will be retroactive to the beginning of 2007. You will automatically be entered into the appropriate Level. Hours are based on a calendar year. How do I become a Life Level Two, Three and Four volunteer?Volunteers can move up the Life Level ladder by donating more time. To reach Life Level 2 you must donate 25 hours, to reach Life Level 3 you must donate 50 hours and to reach Life Level 4 you must donate 75 hours within a calendar year. How do I earn points? For every hour donated you will receive 10 points. Do I need to keep track of my own hours? We encourage you to keep track of your own hours, but it is not required. We will be tracking hours as you sign up for volunteer opportunities. Can my donor and volunteer points be combined? No, these are separate programs. You will be able to redeem items from the appropriate store for your points. Many of the same items are available on both stores. Will my points expire?Yes, after 24 months of inactivity. Can I transfer my points to someone else?Your volunteer points are non-transferable; however you may chose to “donate them back” to the San Diego Blood Bank, an option available on the Volunteer Difference Store. Can I save my points?Yes, you can accumulate as many points as you like as long as you are an active volunteer. Can I donate my points back?Yes. You may donate your points back to specific San Diego Blood Bank projects. You may select Donate Points Back option on the online store, or you may call us at 1-800-4MY-SDBB. Donating your points back allows the San Diego Blood Bank, a not-for-profit organization, to save money on program costs and services – yet another way to make a difference in life. How can I redeem points? You can redeem points by calling the San Diego Blood Bank at 619-400-8202. What is the time period of this new program? The program will run on a calendar year, starting August 1, 2007, but hours will be retroactive to January 1, 2007. What if I want to volunteer more, but there are no volunteer opportunities in my neighborhood?Blood drives change month to month. Keep checking the calendar of events for blood drives in your neighborhood. You can also check our website for future drives before you receive the newsletter. If I become a Life Level 4 volunteer do I start out as a Life Level 4 volunteer the next year? You will continue to enjoy the benefits of Life Level 4 as long as you continue to volunteer 75 hours or more per calendar year. If you do not maintain those hours you will drop down to the corresponding level. The Story · The Steps · The Store · Benefit Levels · Opportunities · FAQs · Volunteer Newsletter |
