At San Diego Blood Bank, we believe that every donation tells a story of generosity, hope, and community—so thank you for making your first donation! Our new 2nd Donation Appreciation Gift program is designed to reward you for being a part of our lifesaving mission, and to encourage you to make an even bigger impact by coming back for your next donation.
By making a second donation, you’ll be helping us ensure a stable blood supply for patients in need, while also taking part in a special offer just for you. As a first-time donor, your support makes all the difference, and we want to show our appreciation with a gift of your choice when you return for your second donation.
How It Works
- Return for Your Second Donation: To continue making an impact, schedule your second appointment at any of our donor centers or mobile drives. This offer is available to first-time donors who made their initial donation July 1, 2024 or after.
- Redeem Your Appreciation Gift: After your second donation, you’ll receive an email with instructions to claim your special $25 gift. Simply log into your donor portal to choose from popular retailers, restaurants, or the option to “donate back” to support our mission. Be sure to complete your second donation by January 31, 2025, or within 3 months of your eligibility date to qualify.

- What if I prefer to donate back instead of receiving the e-gift code?
- Choosing to give back is a great way to help us continue to save lives! If you choose to donate back, your contribution can support our mission in one of three ways:
- Blood Collection supplies – it costs approximately $25 in materials for each blood collection! Your donation helps ensure that we can continue to collect blood for patients in need.
- Our annual Volunteer appreciation event – volunteers help ensure a healthy, safe, and clean environment for blood donors. Each year, we celebrate our volunteers with a special event! Your donation will help offset the cost of this event.
- Our annual Team Survivor (TS) appreciation event – Team Survivor members are local blood transfusion recipients who volunteer to share their story and promote the importance of blood donation. Each year, we celebrate our TS members with a special event! Your donation will help offset the cost of this event.
- Choosing to give back is a great way to help us continue to save lives! If you choose to donate back, your contribution can support our mission in one of three ways:
- Who is eligible for this offer?
- This offer is available to individuals who have made their first donation (July 1, 2024, or after) and are eligible for a second donation. This offer is not available to donors who donated for the first time prior to July 1, 2024, or existing donors.
- Why is this only offered to donors who donated for the first time after July 1, 2024?
- This program was just recently created to encourage new first-time donors to return to donate blood again.
- If you started donating blood with us prior to this new program, thank you for your continued support of our mission. We encourage you to take full advantage of our Guardians Circle and Refer-a-Friend programs!
- How do I redeem my 2nd donation gift?
- After your second donation, you will receive an email to the email address file. Donors will need to login to their donor portal. There will be a link to click on to select your gift and instructions on how to redeem. If you select an e-gift code option, please allow up to 2-3 weeks for your e-gift code to be emailed to you.
- Can I choose a different option for my appreciation gift / to give back to?
- Not currently, but we welcome your suggestions as we continue to improve this program for the future. Please send any ideas to rewards@sdbb.org or call (619) 400-8251.
- How long do I have to complete my second donation and receive the 2nd donation gift?
- To be eligible for your 2nd donation appreciation gift, complete your second donation by January 31, 2025, or within the 3 months from your eligibility date.
- When will I receive my e-gift code?
- After you complete your 2nd donation visit and you have placed the order in your blood donor portal, you should receive your e-gift code within 2-3 weeks at the email we have on file for you. If you have questions about the status of the e-gift code after you place your order you can email rewards@sdbb.org or call (619) 400-8251.
- Will my personal information be shared when redeeming my gift?
- Your personal information will be kept confidential and will only be used for the purpose of sending your e-gift code and communicating with you regarding your donation.
