We Heart Our Life-Saving Community
Saving lives takes all of us—people from all walks of life, with all types of blood—coming together in a shared act of love.
This February, as we recognize American Heart Month, we encourage you to take care of your heart by knowing your numbers! High blood pressure is often silent, but regular donations help monitor your health every eight weeks. We’re honored to support your well-being while you give the gift of life.
Healthcare is at the heart of what we do, and we couldn’t do it without YOU. Thank you for being part of our lifesaving mission—we look forward to celebrating 75 years of impact with you throughout 2025!
With Love,
Your San Diego Blood Bank Family
P.S. All blood types are critically needed.

For 75 years, our life-saving mission has been powered by people like you. Every donor who has rolled up their sleeve. Every volunteer who has given their time. Every supporter who has invested in the health and well-being of our community.
You are the reason this lifeline endures. And the story isn’t over…
95% Funded—Bloodmobile Campaign Drives Toward Finish Line
Foundation support, corporate sponsors, and generous individual financial donors have helped raise more than $708K for the purchase of a new bloodmobile. Bloodmobiles ensure San Diego Blood Bank can partner with the community and host more blood drives.
Did you know that in 2024, we partnered with 830 organizations and individuals to host 2,139 mobile drives!?
There’s still time to make your gift in support of our lifesaving fleet.
California Black Health Network and San Diego Blood Bank Empower Health Equity for All
San Diego Blood Bank co-hosted a networking event with the California Black Health Network in January at our Gateway Donor Center. Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical, SDBB, blood recipients and BHN members came together for an evening to share ideas, build relationships, and learn about the importance of blood donation and its impact on our diverse patient community.
Our organizations support one another in an effort to advocate for diversity in blood donation and support minority representation in medical research to further advance health equity for all Black Californians.
We look forward to the new paths we can pave together through advocacy and community action.
Grand Opening of Irvine Milk Depot Collects 4,092 OUNCES of Donor Milk From Generous and Caring SoCal Mothers
UC Health Milk Bank celebrated their Grand Opening of their Irvine Milk Depot this week at our Irvine Business District Donor Center!
UC Health Milk Bank’s headquarters is located inside our Gateway building where they collect, process and store Mother’s Milk from local volunteer donors to support NICU hospital patients.
Donor breast milk is making a difference in the lives of most vulnerable infants. Just like blood donation saves lives, every ounce of mother’s milk is a gift of love.
Heart Health Month - Blood Pressure Screening
Do You Know Your Numbers?
February is Heart Health Month! Hypertension and high blood pressure can often go undetected, causing critical health issues. This month, we partnered again with LiveWell San Diego’s Love Your Heart event by offering free blood pressure screenings to donors and guests.
You can Love Your Heart every time you donate blood! Donating blood regularly ensures you are tracking your numbers and prioritizing your health.

Featured Story: Chance and Cadence
When you donate blood, you’re not just giving a pint—you’re giving people like Cadence and Chance the gift of life.
Their inspiring journeys show just how critical blood donations are for patients facing congenital heart defects, critical heart surgeries, and chronic health challenges.
Chance (right) was born with congenital heart defects, requiring open-heart and pacemaker surgeries. His younger sister, Cadence (left), was born with “half a heart” or Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome and has faced countless surgeries for her heart, liver, and gastrointestinal system. Every step of the way, blood donors have been their lifelines.
But Cadence’s challenges go beyond her heart. She lives with chronic conditions that cause daily pain and require frequent hospital stays. Despite this, she embraces life with remarkable courage and resilience. Her journey is filled with obstacles, but she faces each day with grace and dignity, refusing to let her health define her…
"“Blood donors have given me the chance to live my life, and for that, I’m endlessly grateful.”
— Cadence
