Jim Walker’s unwavering dedication to the San Diego Blood Bank over 50 years has resulted more than 170 gallons of blood donated and hundred of volunteer hours. You may see him most Fridays in Gateway’s canteen.
Jim’s commitment is honored with a spot in the Fresenius Kabi Donation Hall of Fame and a tribute brick at the Gateway Donor Center.

Blood Recipient Story: Mia's Journey
At 6 years old, Mia was diagnosed with Lymphoblastic Leukemia. After years of treatment at Rady Children’s Hospital, including over 30 blood transfusions and chemotherapy, Mia is finally cancer-free. Being able to ring the bell after a long fight, was a huge milestone for Mia and her family.
Mia loves playing games on her iPad, doing art, and playing soccer. This summer, she enjoyed achieving one of her dreams—a trip to Disney World! Mia has been recognized as a “Rady’s Rockstar” and “Honored Hero” for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, raising awareness and inspiring others battling leukemia and other childhood cancers.
