Celebrating World Blood Donor Day 2026

Honoring Every Donor, Every Drop: World Blood Donor Day 2026

Each year on June 14, the world unites to recognize World Blood Donor Day—a moment to raise awareness of the life-saving power of blood donations and thank those who give from the heart.

At San Diego Blood Bank, we’re proud to celebrate this important day by honoring the heroes who make our mission possible: volunteer blood donors. Every person who chooses to donate blood helps ensure that patients in our community have access to the life-saving blood products they need.

Every donor who walks through our center doors or makes time to give at a community blood drive provides a precious gift. Every donation has the power to change and save lives across our region.

“World Blood Donor Day gives us an opportunity to thank our many local donors who give the gift of life and to encourage others to start donating. We encourage people in good health to donate blood regularly and as often as is safe and possible to provide quality of life for patients who depend on transfusions.” —Douglas Morton, CEO, San Diego Blood Bank

It Takes All Types to Make a Difference: A More Inclusive Future Starts with You

Your blood type could be the perfect match for a patient fighting sickle cell disease, leukemia, or undergoing a complex transplant.

Every donor brings a gift that only they can give. That’s why we need people of all backgrounds, communities, and identities to step forward. Our diverse Southern California population requires diverse volunteer donors to donate blood regularly.

We encourage our community to learn more about blood donation and become blood donors to help prevent regional and national blood shortages.

If every blood donor donated just one more time each year our hospital needs could be met. But, our region still needs more new and returning volunteer donors to step up to give and become the next generation of lifesavers for our community.

Every donation tells a story of healing—and your story matters. And every donor who walks through our door is a hero ensuring up to 3 more lives can be saved,
